I just wanted to respond to the moms and other ladies in here discussing the topic of raising a boy through puberty. Males usually start ejaculating at 11, maybe 12...sometimes it's by masturbation, sometimes by a wet dream. My first ejaculation was by masturbating. As far as the masturbation is concerned, there are 4 important rules to remember:

1. ALWAYS knock. Even if you have to drop a hint to him to put up a stupid sign on the door, at least you'll be reminded...

2. Ignorance is bliss. If you hear him have an orgasm or cleaning up or you find semen on the sheets when you wash them, bite your tongue and remember that you were young once... :)

3. Do not confront the unstable animal. If you go charging into the room with the sheets and say "don't do this in your bed, do it in the shower", you'll only fuel the confusion and embarrassment in his mind...use your common sense and ask if you'd want your parent doing that to you.

4. Be very aware of what is normal and abnormal. If he's spending an inordinate amount of time in his room and you can tell he's masturbating, you might want to encourage some other activities. There's also a tell-tale smell, so be alert for that. If you find pornography that is not age-appropriate (12 year olds should not be masturbating to bestiality or heavy bondage or things like that), then you need to throw it out and let them make the move to confront you about it. I don't know any 12 year old that would go up to their mom and say "you threw out my S&M magazine!!".
