IOWA CITY, Iowa - The armed man who robbed the Romantix adult shop early Thursday morning got away with an $250 adult toy just before police arrived.

According to Iowa City police Sgt. Denise Brotherton, before 3:10 a.m. the male subject reportedly made small talk with the female clerk before he displayed a hunting knife, forcing the her to jump the counter as he chased her briefly before she ran from the store.

No one was injured, but the white male subject grabbed the toy and fled just before police arrived, said a staff member working today. It was noted Romantix doesn’t carry many of the dummies.

The store, located at 315 Kirkwood Ave., showed no signs of forced entry, according to the clerk. It operates from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily.

Investigators are still working to obtain surveillance video of the robbery, Brotherton said. The subject has been described as a 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, 165-pound man, who wore a black coat and a scarf over his face, toting a backpack.
