You know, I do live in Oakland. Many people bring guns to dinner, and other exotic places.

Keep in mind, my country was founded on treason. The idea wasn't to quash revolution originally, it was to make it so that it was no longer necessary. Though I'm starting to wonder if what's happening the USA isn't the beginning of drastic measures.

Depending, of course, upon one's perspective.

I don't think perspective has much to do with it. From what I learned in school they knew it was treason when the colonists decided to no longer be ruled by someone so far away without any kind of representation in parliament. However, it was also decided by those people that the results should they fail were vastly outweighed by the prospects of what they could achieve should they succeed and thus started the revolution. Then again........I once heard in the movie The Count of Monte Cristo "Treason is a matter of dates, and well all is said and done I will be the patriot and you will be the upstart."

Some people think perspective matters.

Perspective is a personal matter. From the Brit perspective, there's a slight matter of back-taxes, on the basis that the colonies had no legal mechanism to separate from the crown. From the Yank perspective it was time to try a social experiment in self-rule. For the Indians it was an experiment in oppression and disenfranchisation. For the Aussies, it was a journey to a new and harsh land. Iceland probably had a take on it as well.

In which case it's ALL perspective from the persons (groups) view.

That's right. Perspective matters.

... unless your perspective is that perspective does not matter.

The truth of the matter that since perspective changes based on the individual telling the story, perspectives on the subject don't mean squat to those listening. Mainly because we will draw our own conclusions and perspectives based on the information given to us. In which case we have just made full circle back to "treason is a matter of dates."

That's the key. We need more people that draw their OWN conclusion, but not based ONLY on the information given by the story teller.

$50.

That's what it cost to cremate someone (my father) in 1987.

What a bargain.
