Airsoft
Airsoft weaponry has been out for awhile. They have little games from target and wars in the backyard, to people spending lots of money for competition. I was wondering if any of you are into this and where you go to get your gear. It seems that prices don't vary to much from site to site, but I've noticed some of these guns run up well over 100 and some are even are 1,000+. I kind of want to stay away from the cheaper stuff that is going to break. I do realize that you get what you paid for, but a lot of times you can find a cheaper brand that holds up real well.

My son just bought and M4 semi/full .20 cal at Modell's His critique was it was underpowered compared to his friends rifles for putting rounds down range they were all coveting my .177 crossman (I only use real ammo)but mine has a mussel speed of 650 fps and a 2-7X32 scope....But you could buy one with scope for less than a $100 American and I think the sell .177 plasticsoft rounds too..... yeah his m4 was about $60.... that's what yah have to think about too a better gun you become a sniper in war games less likely to get shot

I have a pellet rifle (.177 cal) that shoots 1000 fps and is as accurate as a .22. However, you can't shoot those at people legally. My cousin and I are planning on hosting a few backyard airsoft wars with a few of our nephews and a couple of friends. We have plans for cover, some lighting, and rules for safety purposes. Only thing that's variable from person to person is choice of weapons. So I was wondering what sort of luck you've had with particular brands, models, websites, etc.

OK so it sounds like you want lower velocity I then would recommend the M4 which is manufactured by German Sport Guns and was bought at Modells. a local sporting goods store

Well I've been hit point blank by one that shoots close to 300 fps. It hurt, but left no bruise and no other side affects. Besides, chances are we won't get closer than five feet away before the person we're sneaking up on realizes it and runs. So I'm looking for anything from 250-300 fps, at least a 50 foot effective range. I've found several sites, but when buying online, you take your chances. So back to, what sites have you had luck with, what brands should I be looking at......

I picked up an FN P90 a couple of years ago for about $50 from ebay. Looks like they are down to around $30 now. It shoots 400 .12g BB at 200fps every minute. The mag holds 400 rounds so obvious math means 1 minute of continues fire. Comes with a rechargeable battery pack and charger.
There are several other varieties of the P90 ranging from $120 to $170. They can shoot a larger BB at higher fps. Check a site called Airsplat

Airsoft isn't legal here in Oz, but I saw a stack of them in New Zealand last Easter. A group of miltary re-enactors had Schmeissers (ERMA MP40s), K98s and P-08 Lugers.

Most of the those that I've seen are battery operated. We're starting to look into those even though they tend to be higher cost.

I bought a bunch to use as movie props way back when and our group ended up playing quite a bit. A heck of a lot cheaper than paintball, and always a good time. Haven't done it in years though.
