yes,, me.
For my internet computer. No more viruses, email worms, no Big brother spying out my internet activities ( guess his 1st name is Billy). performance however is bad, not a smart idea to use up the old computer for internet use. My machine is a Pentium1 233 MHz with 96MB RAM, slllllooooowww ...

But the KDE GUI has options Windoze only can dream of.

Okok, viruses and other nuisances will adapt to Linux, but today they face a major compatibility challenge

For my CAD work i willy-nilly have to use Windoze NT (Windoze 2k soon, sorry no XP, I'm a sadist, not a masochist)

Bernhard

Hehehe, I'm more of a Gnome/Enlightenment guy, myself.
This thing just *doesn't* crash - ever. And I have a web server, database server, FTP server, SSH server, all for free. Only problems are with browser-specific webpages, and I really need time to check out my configuration more - if you don't know what you're doing, you can "un-secure" Linux REALLY quickly...
I do have to keep Win 2k on here as the rest of the family have to use the computer too.
Most importantly, Tux is much cuter and cuddlier than the Windows logo!

me is no LInux wiz, just feeling quite comfortable having spend 5 days after change to get a clue where the jack rabbit is heading to .... and being able to use and configure the machine to my needs.

But obvioulsy i've gotten computer instinct. I usually takes me less than a week to get into a new CAD system (record: 18 hours with HP ME30). Exception: those friggin' systems which are made not-being self-teachable. Like Pro/Engineer. And CADDS. But in AutoCAD i'm a true wiz, have gotten into LISP programming myself without seminars, have programmed auxiliary geometry utilities, involute toothing for gear wheels, automatic dimensioning procedures etc. .... meanwhile i feel quite at home having LISP manipulate elements in AutoCAD's element database. Being close to program a Pentium in Assembler code, tellya!

After 6 months of Linux experience, i wish now all the CAD systems had stayed in the UNIX world and not hopped over to Windoze & Co. You are right, this Linux is incredibly stable and rugged if set up properly.

Ooh, almost forgot to mention that the additional filesystem level security is quite good for keeping prying eyes out of my ..err..."personal files"....

legend and all,

if you not already know it, seek for "real programmers don't use Pascal" on the web, you'll be ROTLFYAO, promised.

Excerpt: "a real programmer reads HEX code and can find a bug in a 6Mbyte core dump"

i had to use assembly to program a MC68HC11, but that wasn't on a linux machine. haven't used Pascal, I've only used visual basic, C++, assembly and some abel. Oh, also had to program a PLC using Festo, which is German incidently.
