seems lots of meds have those sorts of ironic twists. i saw a commercial for a sleep aid that said it could cause restlessness ,and a commercial for an allergy med that said it could cause itchy/watery eyes and respiratory inflammations and a commercial for a tummy med that said it could cause diarrhea, vomiting, and/or upset stomach

I have been reading a lot about this class of drugs lately and my concern is their use in children and how these drugs and their libido manipulation affect the normal development of teens.

Often is the case where the cure is worse than the problem.

And I've long thought that it was the over-prescribing of med's to children that will lead to severe problems down the road. We don't know how these things affect physical and emotional development in the long run, and it's a great concern of mine.

Ok, confession time...

When I was forced to leave New Orleans last year, I found myself stuck alone in a strange city with a newly broken arm that really, really HURT. I was put on Zoloft.
This was the fourth time, and I think the last.

First time was after my parents died. (Paxil). It helped, and I was off it after 4 months. If it had any side effects, I didn't notice.

Second time was a Psychiatrist who was not too helpful. She thought my sexual adventures were a sign of depression. Paxil again, it did NOTHING for me. I wasn't depressed, just horny all the time.

Third time was after my divorce. (Welbutrin)
I HATED it. I lost interest in housecleaning, and let myself be drawn into a really destructive, uncontrolled BDSM relationship. I drank more, and got involved in some really bad situations. I allowed things to be done to me and with me that were not out of love, but out of cruelty. I engaged in unportected sex. A bad time for me.

Antidepressants can help, but they DO NOT replace therapy.

Talking to a trained therapist helped me the most.

SSRI's are given because they are more or less safe, and insurance companies prefer to pay for them than pay for the needed therapy.

I was on Seroxat (UK name for Paxil) for just over a year, it certainly worked for all my problems as for lowering lubido that's a tricky one.
I regularly went for over a week without a hint of self didling, unheard of for someone who could go at it several times.............an hour before I was on it!

But it was also not long after I started taking it that I met lou and well there wasn't anything stopping me then!! I did get the delayed orgasm thing which can be more of a pain than it might sound!

Not sure if that helped with any of the questions just thought I'd throw my experiences in to the ring.

I suspect that was the reason I was put on Paxil. She (my then therapist) thought it might reduce my libido. It didn't.
The two times I was put on Paxil, I didn't really notice anything different about my sex drive. But after the death of my parents sex was pretty low on my priority list. I mean I was having sex, but it was more for the comfort than anything else.
Zolft didn't change my libido, I think. My arm really hurt, and that caused certain... changes in my sexual interests. (I became more interested in pain as a part of sex) But I was still pretty horny all the time.

Welbutrin was a nightmare.
It increased my libido, but in a really strange way. It made me self destructive, and I pursued random sexual encounters constantly. I was drawn into the most damaging BDSM relationship imaginable, and was so lucky to escape without permanent damage or disease.

I was on Lustral (Sertraline), twice as it happens, and I got the delayed orgasm thing with that as well. In my case though, I was with a new partner at the time, and she thought it was wonderful I could last so long! ('course, I'm wonderful anyway, but that's by the by!) Didn't get any other side-effects either time, and I was on it a minimum of a year each time. I had tried a couple of others before that, though, one was Seroxat (SSRI) the other Lofepramine (Tricyclic). They did NOT agree with me at all, and my Doc was not a fan of Prozac, hence the Lustral.

I have to say WI, I haven't heard of them being used to treat premature ejaculation here, but I guess I can see the attraction for some people. Drugs can work funny ways a lot of the time; remember that Viagra was originally meant to be an anti-depressant too!!!
