Aussie slang & sayings !

A some other countries already know....us Aussies have a language all our own We seem to have this habit of adapting words from other languages to make our own.....and our as for our sayings...well there we really seem to lose some ppl...

So i thought i'd start up this thread so that if anyone hears an Oz saying or word....they can come here and have an Aussie try to explain it....and i do mean try...some of the words even we dont understand...*LOL*

My favorite word is "Feral" and i use it all the time...eg: Those kids are feral!....jeez we had a feral weekend..

Favorite saying...hmmmm..."I'm drier than a dead dingos donger"

Lightbulb Just what I was looking for!

Thank you dear. I’m just a poor, dumb Westside Irish kid. I need all the help I can get!

Love the “dead dingo’s donger”.

Still not sure about the “feral”? Should I see that as positive or negative? Both kids and weekends can be either.

Clarify for me please. We use “flash lights”, SOME people use “torches”. Do you have “lanterns”?

After getting up of the floor I've decided that I cannot let an opportunity go by.....

The correct response to your query Panty would have to be:

We Aussies do not have any of those, because being Down Under........the sun shines out of our asses...LOL..

I got so confused when I first moved to Adelaide by the following:

"flat out"
"Rocked up"
"goodonya" (for those of us in North America - good on you)

Slang that stuck:

"Sweet as!"
"heaps" (as in "heaps good friends")
"reckon"

Fun thread!!! Cheers big ears!

Ophelia

PS - I'm curious how the Aussies feel about Steve Erwin...a.k.a The Crockadile Hunter?

Thumbs up Steve!!! The all mighty croc hunter!!!

All I can say about him is HE IS NUCKING FUTS!!!!

Anybody who would jump on a croc ....in a mud hole... in complete darkness.... cause his lantern went out, can put his boots (what's left of them ) under my bed anytime!!
