Can't cum - about antidepresants

Hello, I hope somebody out here any doc, pharmacist or chemist could answer me.

I've been in some kind of depression recently and my father who is a psychiatrist gave me an antidepresant - "Seroxat". Some side effects did happen at first like nausea, dizzyness, sleepiness but there was another effect: I COULDN'T CUM. Well, at first this was not a problem for me, because it was not a problem of my efficiency, but later it started to cause serious pain in my loans.

Secondly, I love to make sex with my wife, she does also, and she was delighted at first when I could make her cum 4-5 times without me cumming but she whats me to cum also.

Any advice, I'd appreciate. Is this because of Seroxat? or is it because of the depressed state i'm in? If it's because of the medication, will it be over?

Thanks..

Arrow About Seroxat & ejaculation

Joys-

I'm not a physician or pharmacist, but I have some post-graduate classes and work experience in counselling, and I have had many different anti-depressants prescribed for me and so did my late wife, so I have quite a bit of practical knowledge on the topic. Also, I just spent about 90 mins. doing more research on the Web.

I found quite a few men in other forums with the same complaint
of difficulty ejaculating while taking Seroxat (or the US brand Paxil,) and at least twice that many who had great trouble getting an erection. Several had to give up Seroxat, several were able to add a second anti-depressant to it and that helped, some found out the sexual side effects decreased the longer they used it, and some got better with a higher dose of Seroxat.

The manufacturer (oops, forgot to put their name in my notes) had the following statements that may apply to you in their company info about Seroxat:
"Men may have difficulty having an erection or may find it difficult to ejaculate. The majority of these effects will lessen with continued use of the medicine... If you have any problems while taking Seroxat, tell your doctor or pharmacist."

Of course, telling your doctor or pharmacist first is always good advice. I almost always talk to my pharmacist first, unless the side-effects I notice are something my doc has already warned me about, then I just let him know about the severity of any problems. Since your father is your psychiatrist, hopefully he can be a good source of advice for you.

Most of the anti-depressants of the "SSRI" type, including almost all of the most often prescribed ones like Seroxat and Prozac, have fairly common negative sexual effects. From reading other Web users' posts around the net, I found that many get help with sexual side effects, and often better results for their depression, by taking combinations of from 2 to as many as 5 medications and hormones. In fact, currently, I'm on 2 compatible anti-depressants, 2 hormones and 1 stimulant. (Part of my diagnosis says "medication-resistant major depression")

I'm 50 yrs old, and I certainly don't cum as quickly as I did when I was a young man, but that is really OK in my case, most of the time. It is only frustrating every once in awhile, and who knows whether this fairly seldom occurence is related to my anti-depressants or not. I've just been on my latest combination for about 4 months, and after 1 month I realized I was more horny, more often, than I had been since my mid-20s. In fact, maybe a higher sex drive than ever before. I have to admit I kind of like it!

One other thing that many people mentioned about Seroxat is that it is actually dangerous to quit taking it suddenly. I was only taking it for about 3 or 4 weeks before my doc & I realized my depression was actually worse than with my earlier meds, but even then he took me off of it by reducing my dose a little each day for about 10 days and adding in a little of another compatible anti-depressant each of those days.

I get carried away and write too much info in my posts sometimes,
but I hope this one will be of some help to you and your wife.

Take good care of yourself! RW- MrCuriousUSA

Thanks a lot for your reply & feedback. I've recieved your post and PM both. It was much reliefing. I will print it out and show to my my wife. In fact, it's not a big problem for me - not cumming since i do not have a problem of impotance, I can make her cum more then I could before cause I last longer. I also asked a doc friend of mine who said before viagra, these kinds of antidepresants were used to prevent pre-ejaculation.

Thanks a lot again for your kind and informing reply. I appreciate it much

Joys

I am a pharmacist, and yes antidepresant drugs can cause many forms of sexual dysfunction, you might try a different one, or try lowering the dose, it sounds like your wife is very supportive and with her help and some drug or dose adjustments you should find something that can help with your depression without killing you ability in the bedroom

Thank you rockman for your feedback.

Yes my wife is a great support but although jokingly, she does complain about me of not cumming. I told her "look, i'm still alive and horny after your 3rd or 4th orgasm" but guess she misses my cum.

Anyhow, I've tried some other antidepresants, prozac and deprex but their side effects were worse - agression, paranoid actions with alchohol... With Seroxat, I did have my depression relieved and with no serious side effects (other than this) - only some as I mentioned before at the first stages.

As I told b4, my dad is a psychiatrist (a professor actually) and I trust him a lot. I didn't ask this to him at first as he was away and actually I was ashamed (and my wife) and put it here on the board. Now, with the info from you, I have the courage to ask him, cause I'm sure when he gets back, he will ask me how I'm doing with seroxat.

Regarding the dose, I took 10 mgs for the first 5 days and now taking 20 mgs/day.

And another thing, it doesn't kill my ability in bedroom, on the contrary it enhances it because i dont cum. Once, long time ago I used Meleril, which made me cum but could not ejaculate. This is not the case. I am able, but simply dont cum.

Rockman, do you think this will go on as long as I use this drug, or will it pass away after a period I use like the nashua and dizzyness did? On the perscription, it says it will pass away but its been almost 3 weeks now.

Unfortunately the side effects are not standard in everyone, sometimes they do lesson or disappear as you continue to take the medication, in others they never get worse but do not improve either, the 3 week reference i beleive is more in reference to se if medication is going to help with your depression, it is always advised to take a anitdepresant for at least 3 weeks to give it a chance.
back to your taking of the drug, is your erection harder and painful with this medication, or just normal and you just can cum?

Try self stimulation

I know what you are talking about joys. I was on Celexa for a year and a half. I often had trouble cumming. Not always, and escpecially in the beginning of my treatment. One thing in addition to trying different medications you might try is masturbation.

Women are told if they have trouble cumming, to masturbate and bring yourself to orgasm. A person can "train" him or herself to cum faster that way, or slower depending upon one's dilemma. It might not work as the cause of your prolonged erections are chemical, but you might find it works. Different people react differently.

I've been off the Celexa now for about 4 months and I have the opposite, I cum faster than I want! I got used to the prolonging effects and now-- spurt! I have found that my sex drive is way up though! I compensate to my wife with longer foreplay, but that is another post.

Good luck!

Paroxatine is in the family of antidepressant called SRI's. They all have upto a 60% chance of delaying or stopping u from cumming. They are used for men who actually cum to fast for their partners. Wellbutrin , Effexor , Remeron and Serozone are newer with the least chance of stopping or delaying ejacualtion. Some of them are added to SRI's as they can sometimes reverse that side effect. If iparaxotine is working for your depression I would not change but look at adding if possible ( if u want too ) but u shuld do it with the help of a Doctor.

Good luck

Thumbs up Came at last

Thanks to all folks. You are really helpful and informative. I'd like to let you all know that I came at last this morning - God I had missed it LOL. I'm not sure what will happen later on though. Whether the effect of the medication is subsiding or it will be another 3 weeks before I cum once again.
