Thumbs up Sears (not advertising)

Subject: About Sears

I assume you have all see the reports about how Sears is treating its reservist employees who are called up? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up...

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining

all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs.

Suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell

them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

So I decided to check it out before I sent it forward. I sent the

following email to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this email and I would like to know if it is true. If it is,

the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement

for your store. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears

instead of another store for a like item even if it was cheaper at the other store.

Here is their answer to my email......................

Dear Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your support for our actions regarding our associates who have been called into active duty. We thought our actions were simply the right thing to do, so we have been pleasantly surprised by the tremendous surge of support from you and so many other Americans.

Yes, Sears has extended its program of military pay differential to 24 months. This includes allowing Sears reservists who are full-time employees to continue participating in the company's life insurance, medical and dental programs, if they choose. The company will also hold a comparable position for these individuals for up to five years.

This is not an unusual policy change for Sears. We have extended the pay differential many times in the past, including for Operation Desert Storm and, more recently, for reservists called to serve in Croatia.

Sears has a heritage of commitment to families and home. This is a difficult time for military families, and we are proud to be able to take these actions to demonstrate support for our many co-workers who are serving our Nation.

Sincerely,
The Employees of Sears, Roebuck and Co.

Please pass this on to all your friends, Sears needs to be recognized

for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we

do appreciate what they are doing for our military,

Irish,

Thanks for the info; I really had no idea. That Sears went the extra mile, well, I’ll admit it, I wouldn’t have thought so.

Live and learn, I guess. I’ll give Sears preferential treatment from now on.

Sears will get a boost from us as well. It's the least we can do when they are doing that for servicemen and women!

Thank you Irish! That was the most pleasant surprise I’ve had in a while.

We are all aware that these are not easy times for Sear & Rubbish (old habit ) and it is not hard to for us older people to be disenchanted with today’s general business practices of “hit um hard and keep moving”. I have to feel this is truly the exception today. Rather spend my couple bucks with somebody like that.

Maybe there is hope.

Irish,
thanks for posting that... makes me feel less guilty about all the tools I have from them.

In case others did not look at the link that IAKG provided... at the bottom of that page is another link with many other companies that provide benefits and pay to their reservists. Not all provide full pay and benefits, but a lot of them do. It's worthwhile to peruse the list at http://www.esgr.org/employers/outstandingEmployers.asp and see who is doing what....

I am glad to see some cities and government offices are on that list!

M.T.---As far as their tools go,if you get Craftsman, they are
garanteed(sp?)for life.If you have been a mechanic,all of your
life,this is VERY important.When I was 16,I worked, for the summer,in a body shop.Two people there had,basically,the same
job.One had Craftsman tools, the other had Snap-On.The Craftsman tools outlasted the others, approx. 3-1.When I worked
at Sikorsky Aircraft, there were 3 Sears stores around the factory,
where I worked.If I broke(often)a tool at work,I could replace it
by the next day. When you have to have a helicopter,in the air,
immediately,this is very important.I always preferred Snap-On
tools. You have to wait for the toolman to come around(about
once a week)I quickly changed brands!Feeding my family,depend-
ed on doing my job.I had 3 sets of everything. One set in my car,
one set at work,& one in my motorcycle shop. When tools are your
living, price & dependability are very important! Irish
P.S.Not endorsing Sears,just Craftsman tools!
