The latest on JWST

The telescope has reached its destination, orbiting the L2 point-one of several points in space where the gravity of the earth & sun balance. It's not technically stationary at L2, because that would pop its instruments into the sun occasionally. So far, the mission has been exactly as planned and hoped for; now, after an approximately 6-month cool down & claibration phase, the thing can start doing real science.

And now, we have the first calibration pictures from the telescope. Mind you, this is the first of the images: so, a composite of each of the images from all 18 different mirrors looking at the same star. No, note even focused yet, but that's what you should expect, it's part of the calibration process. The real point though, is that things are working as expected. Hooray for science!
