In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1915. In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. *linkage |
Beautiful sentiment for Memorial Day thereIam! TY so much for the reminder! I read the site (linkage) and popped off to other links therein!
TY to all who served and are serving now! TY Dad...WWII and Korea............. |
Again, thank you thereIam for the beautiful verse. I have many relations who are now gone, but who served our nation ... God bless them all.
There was another long poem by Rev. Dick Kozelka of Minneapolis that I love. I won't quote it all ... just the last few lines that I thought were so wonderful ... We remember with compassion those who have died serving their countries in the futility of combat. There is none of us but must come to bereavement and separation, when all the answers we are offered fail the question death asks of each of us. We believe that you will provide for us as others have been provided with the fulfillment of "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." |

Thank You to all who serve and did serve in uniform.

I'll say it, but I only half mean it.
Happy Memorial Day
I do whish a pleasant holiday to everyone as we mark the beginning of our summer season of recreation and vacations. Our Veterans Day in November is when we are able to thank the men and women that have stepped forward to defend, in our behalf, each time our country called. I am happy at that time to be able to thank them that have returned and those that are now standing guard. Today I am only able to reflect and thank the families of those that have NOT, and will NOT return to share the way of life we hold dear. I can only offer my respect and gratitude for those that have given ALL so I can enjoy this and all the other days. The happiness I am able to find in this life was paid for by those that will not have the opportunity. They have my thankfulness that I am able to say.. Happy Memorial Day |
This day we honor those who gave their lives knowing full well that Freedom is NOT free. May they rest in peace.
