Ohio High School Porn Homework Canceled

BROOKLYN, Ohio - A high school research assignment on Internet pornography was canceled after parents in this Cleveland suburb complained.

Superintendent Jeff Lampert said that although the teacher's apparent goal _ to discuss the harmful effects of pornography _ was well-intentioned, he agreed with parents that the assignment was inappropriate for 14- and 15-year-old freshmen at Brooklyn High.

The assignment asked students to research pornography on the Internet and list eight facts about pornography. Students also were asked to write their personal views of pornography and any experience they had with it.

Lampert said he doubted the teacher, Scott Gioia, would face any punishment. Gioia teaches health and physical education and has been at the school for about five years.

Lampert said he started getting calls Wednesday and met with the principal and Gioia. They decided that day to drop the project.

"We value the partnership we have" with the community, Lampert said. "We take that very seriously."

There was no phone listing under Gioia's name in the Cleveland area.

Last fall, controversy over questionable work-study credits given to a member of the football team led the team to forfeit four wins _ the team's only victories of the season and the first in two years.

I wonder if they can do it for extra credit work? :confused:

You mean for a grade as opposed to the reason they usually "research" it????

It would be interesting to see a report of 'Marketing, Porn and the Internet'. Not too sure Jr. high school students should be doing it ................... or it could turn the next generation in better consumers than we are.

It's going to be 'researched'!

I have a felling they would find that the internet has done to porn about the same as vidoe did to it in the late 70's and 80's. It has not omly made porn more aceesible for people. It has also made it easier for anyone to get into.

Maybe Ohio should just cancell homework, so the students can do porn instead.

That ^^ idea makes me want to move back to Ohio.

I understand the assignment and the motivation, but I'm not sure I want my 14 year old researching porn in the net

I would much rather study porn than attend my classes...

I am in a current Marketing class right now, maybe we should suggest the above stated project... that just might be fun.
