Anyone have any great tips? Suggestions? Must haves? Recipes? Snacks? I want to make this a memorable trip and not the bleeding, itching, screaming kind of memories.

I love going camping...some of my best memories as a kid happened around a campfire. Make sure you have good rain gear, just in case. And don't forget bug spray!

But for me a camping trip never feels right unless I get to make my favorite campfire treat...Banana Boats. :nana:

Peel off the top part of the banana peel. Scoop out some of the insides of your banana. Spread peanut butter inside, top with chocolate chips, and then put marshmellows on top. Close up the banana peel, wrap it up in foil, and put it in the coals of the campfire for about 10 minutes. Its heaven.

Have fun!

I know you mentioned it was a cabin in another post, what conveniences will you have? Will cooking be over camp fire or will you have a grill or camp stove? electricity and running water in the cabin?

We always spent a lot of time after dark playing card games - uno, skipbo, rummy 500, etc.

I will be staying in a cabin that has beds and ac/heat but that's it. It's a campground with bathrooms, grills, campfires, fishing electric and water at all sites. I camped in a camper a lot as a kid. I have not camped a lot as a grown person. My guys have though. Iam leaving tomorrow and will be gone for 4 days. We are camping near a nice town and will sight-see there one day and go out to an island near by on the other full day.

Food. Lots of food. You might find the best spot in the world, have wonderful weather, but if their is not enough food, that is all they will remember. Food makes for a happy Camper.

A mouth gag for you and maybe your partner. Nylon tents do not muffle the sound of passion. And your neighbors are very close by. They may or may not like having to explain what all the noise was the night before to there 8 year old.

A freesbee and soccer ball are alway in my car. Anyone can play, and quite often other kids will join in.

Sometime I will make Jiffy-pop-popcorn. The one that comes in the pie plate. I use leather construction gloves (part of my fire gear along with an ax and a collapsible water bucket) and cook it over the coals.

Do a color nature hunt - get the kids to write down 8 colors, and then have them go and look for them in Nature. Don't let them pick the items (that is against the Law in many State and Federal Parks), they should call you and show you what they have found.

Get them to run around the campground and write down as many different State and Provincial license plates as they can. Then they have to find them on a Map.

The lawn chairs with short legs are great. Just long enough to keep your butt out of the dirt. That puts you closer to the fire which is much sexier than the regular lawn chairs.

At some time during every campfire the smoke will get in your eyes. There is one sure way of stopping that. But...it is a test of truthfullness!

When the smoke is in your eyes, close them [if you hadn't already...], cover your eyes with your hands...and, without lying, say, "I hate rabbits!" As long as you're not lying, and really hate rabbits, the smoke will never go in your eyes again...guaranteed!

I love that idea - I'm going to remember that for when my little one is old enough for walks in the woods/parks near us!

All part of the master plan! The lavatory lights are dim in the evenings so you don't see the critters.

And the perverts. :D

When I am out in the woods, I usually start with beer then shift over to JD. Used to drop in a dip too but gave that up eons ago. Now it is just a filthy cigar. Keeps the mosquitos away.

:D
